How to Convert Video to GIF for Discord: Size and Quality Tips

How to Convert Video to GIF for Discord

Animated GIFs can communicate a reaction, quick tutorial, or short screen capture without asking viewers to play a full video. If you want to share one in Discord, start with a short clip that communicates one clear moment.

1. Prepare your clip

Choose a short MP4 or WebM video. A clip between two and five seconds is often enough for a reaction. Keep the important action near the center of the frame because you may reduce the resolution later.

2. Convert in the browser

Open the Video to GIF converter, select your file, choose the start and end times, and set the output width and FPS. Start with 320 pixels and 8–12 FPS, then preview the result. The converter processes the video locally in your browser.

3. Reduce the file size

If the GIF is too large for your intended sharing method, shorten it first. Then reduce its width or frame rate. GIF uses a limited colour palette and does not include audio, so smooth gradients may show banding.

4. Share it in Discord

Download the GIF and attach it to your message. Upload limits can vary by account and server configuration, so check the current limit in your Discord client rather than assuming a fixed number.

Common issues

Why does my GIF look blurry?

Low resolution and GIF colour limits can reduce visual detail. Try a slightly wider output or shorter clip.

Will sound be included?

No. The GIF format does not store audio.

Can I convert MOV?

Only if your browser supports that MOV file’s codec. Try converting the source to H.264 MP4 if it does not play.
